EA Passed on Rocket League

EA Passed on Rocket League

Ever wonder if video game publishers know best? Psyonix would probably say no. It turns out Rocket League , the indie game that’s become a sports sensation, has appeared on every major platform, and is headed to retail, was originally pitched to EA. And you know what? EA turned the game down.

This came up after an interview IGN did with EA’s Patrick Söderlund, the company’s Executive Vice President. During the conversation, Söderlund said, “Would I want to be the guy that found Rocket League ? Yes. Would I want that to be an EA property? Of course I would like to.” Psyonix’s Design Director, Corey Davis, then took to Twitter to tell the world that the developer pitched Rocket League to EA in 2011.

I’m sure EA is absolutely kicking itself over missing out on Rocket League . It’s an incredible game that’s performed quite well. It transcends genre barriers! But, given the creative nature of the industry, it probably won’t be long until something else extraordinary captures our hearts.
