Video games get cancelled all the time for a variety of different reasons. The company making it may go under, the development may not be moving along as expected, or the developers could simply move on to something they think will have a better chance of success. However, I’ve never seen a reason as ridiculous as the one that will keep EA Sports MMA from releasing in Denmark.  EA’s upcoming title’s release in Denmark has been canceled due to in-game advertisements for energy drinks (via CVG). EA states “We are adhering to laws in Denmark that restrict the use of energy drink product placement in-game, and therefore are not shipping EA SPORTS MMA in that region. Our game authentically recreates the sport of MMA in every facet, including energy drink in-game sponsorships on fighter shorts, gear, and in fight venues.” So due to this law and EA’s refusal to simply take out the in-game energy drink advertisements, those in Denmark looking forward to EA Sports MMA will have to get their fix of MMA action elsewhere. |
