As has become a monthly tradition, the Game Informer cover for next month has been revealed and, this time out, the news it brings is one of the biggest announcements of the year. Featuring what appears to be a ring made of a dragon, a lion, and an eagle, each swallowing the other’s tail, super-imposed over an all-too-familiar map, the cover is a promo for the just-announced The Elder Scrolls Online. Is that what it sounds like? Yes, yes it is. Bethesda is finally taking the next logical step and transitioning their already massive fantasy world, thus far only experienced in the solo realm, into the vast expanse of MMO gaming. To help them along the way is their game director, Matt Firor, who previously had a hand in Dark Age of Camelot (which was one of, if not the , earliest MMOs to feature large-scale player-versus-player combat). According to him, Bethesda’s aim is to make The Elder Scrolls Online, “… The best MMO ever made—and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.” ![]()
The setting is expected to span Tamriel, with three player factions and a story set a full millennium before the events of Skyrim, when Molag Bal, the daedric prince, was attempting to pull the land into his demonic realm. More info will likely drop next month at E3, and the game can be expected out sometime in 2013. By Shelby Reiches |
