EVE Online Spinoff Coming to Mobile Platforms

EVE Online Spinoff Coming to Mobile Platforms

EVE Online , the massive, online space exploration (and a ton of other stuff) game is getting yet another spinoff, and this time it’s coming to mobile platforms. Developed by Finnish studio PlayRaven, Project Aurora will be a free-to-play game currently planned to launch sometime next year.

Unlike previous spinoff EVE Valkyrie , which was a shooter for consoles, Project Aurora looks a lot more like EVE Online proper. CCP, the company responsible for the core game, released a statement stating that the company has long aimed to get the EVE IP onto mobile in a way that both fits the platform and caters to the EVE fanbase. Screenshots show drilling, space battle, joining corporations, and of course maintaining ships. It basically looks like a tiny version of the regular game, in a way.

In the official announcement, Project Aurora is described as a game in which players have to “work together to dominate the center of the galaxy, and become the most powerful corporation in the universe.” This is much like EVE Online , and since that game is infamous for all the wild, emergent stories of things like players forming religions, and having massive space-battles with thousands of dollars of damage, seeing the mobile game target similar experiences is certainly intriguing.
