Final Fantasy VII PC Launches By Accident, Then Gets Pulled

Final Fantasy VII PC Launches By Accident, Then Gets Pulled

None

Final Fantasy fans got an unexpected treat over the weekend when the PC re-release of beloved RPG Final Fantasy VII was prematurely released on Square Enix’s website.

Many eager players understandably bought the game, only to find that the SecuROM DRM on their downloaded copies wouldn’t work. Square Enix has assured players that the problem isn’t related to the DRM, but that it is strictly because of the simple fact that the game wasn’t supposed to come out yet.

Players who did make the purchase reportedly paid $12.70 for their copies, so expect the title to be somewhere around that price on its official release date. When that day comes, the revamped PC version of Final Fantasy VII will come with achievements, cloud saves, and a special “character booster” that maxes out stats at a moment’s notice.

Square Enix is expected to release a statement on the mishap in the near future. We’ll update as necessary if and when they do.
