Last night’s Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event was full of lovely surprises. Though the biggest reveal was obviously the game’s release date, one of the more immediately relevant surprises was a brand new demo. Platinum Demo is a brand new experience, separate from the original demo that came with the purchase of the HD version of Type-0. The best part of the announcement? The demo is free, and it’s available now.
If you head to the PlayStation store or Xbox Live Games store you’ll find Platinum Demo ready to download. It’s pretty light, being a little less than 4 gigs. This is a completely unique side story that you won’t get to experience in the full game. You’ll control a young Noctis in a dream state as he befriends and protects the mythical creature Carbuncle. The demo will also act as a kind of showcase for the game, allowing you to press special switches that alter the game world in different ways and also allow you to take control of various enemy monsters. You’ll get to engage in combat, drive a vehicle, and use some very interesting weapons and magic in this short story that culminates in an intense boss battle. If you beat the demo, you’ll unlock Carbuncle in the full game, likely as a summon.
