Former Darksiders II Dev Irate Over Credits Snub

None

Xander Davis, besides having the only name I know of besides “Xavier” that starts with “X,” was a user-interface developer on Darksiders II in late 2011. In his short time there, he says he was tasked with overhauling the existing UI into something workable, which he feels he did, putting in fourteen-hour days that often lasted until 2 am. Then, following a January filled with such days, Davis was fired only four months after having been brought on for the position.

He was also not credited for his work on the game, despite, he claims, the final product’s UI being “90% derivative” of his work.

This isn’t a unique occurrence: according to David Adams, the general manager of Vigil Games, the studio was forced to reduce staff when one of their projects was cancelled and efforts were made to credit all of those put out of a job by such unfortunate circumstances. He qualifies Davis’ omission with the caveat that those let go for other reasons, such as documented poor performance, were not included in the credits.

Davis, though, has taken to Twitter, decrying the situation and accusing Herb Ellwood of stealing his job. An anonymous, and supposedly also uncredited, former developer at Vigil has come out in Herb’s defense, instead laying the blame on David Adams. It’s an unfortunate airing of dirty laundry in the wake of what looks to be a decidedly successful launch for Darksiders II, one upon which the future of its publisher may depend.
