Frank Darabont/Walking Dead Lawsuit Continues To Get Ugly

Frank Darabont/Walking Dead Lawsuit Continues To Get Ugly

As you would probably expect with anything involving money, lawyers and a big budget production, the suit between AMC and former show runner Frank Darabont continues to spiral downward.

Marc Kasowitz (attorney for AMC) recently responded to what he considers their “ill-conceived case,”  by sending a letter to the New York Supreme Court stating, “…Plaintiffs now seek to use discovery to conduct a fishing expedition through the files of Defendants, a television network, two television studios, and a parent company, to obtain access to highly sensitive proprietary and confidential information that bears no relevance to Plaintiffs’ claims, including highly confidential and proprietary information relating to television shows other than the one at issue, ‘ The Walking Dead ’.”

While all that legal jargon may be hard to decipher, it all boils down to one simple point: money.

As you may know, Darabont (the man behind such films as The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile ) was a driving force in originally translating The Walking Dead from graphic novel to the episodic TV series that has become such a huge hit for AMC. However, after leaving the show three years ago (forced out is probably a better term), Darabont filed suit against the network. His claim is that he’s owed money on a variety of fronts (including the post-show wrap-up entitled the Talking Dead which airs immediately following each episode). The suit has continued to drag on for months now, with neither side showing any signs of budging on their positions

We’ll bring you more on this nasty legal battle as it unfolds. In the meantime, The Walking Dead returns to AMC this October.
