Frostbite Will Never Be Like The Unreal Engine

Frostbite Will Never Be Like The Unreal Engine

Every next-generation game from Electronic Arts will be using the Frostbite 3 engine. From Battlefield 4 to Need for Speed Rivals, Frostbite 3 usage is in full swing for EA. But don’t expect Frostbite 3 to challenge the Unreal Engine’s crown in the world of game development.

Marcus Nilsson, executive producer for Rivals, doesn’t necessarily believe that Frostbite 3 will become like Unreal Engine:

“It’s EA’s engine and EA is going to start developing for that. Whatever the strategies for Frosbite 3 are I can’t talk about. But I can tell you Frostbite 3, for us, is not only awesome in what it outputs on the screen, it’s also how the developers back in Gothenburg can work with it. The iteration times are faster, the Frostbite tea has that much more time – not working on the toolsets as [much as] they are on the output.”

In layman’s terms, the Unreal Engine will still, more than likely, be the choice for developers, but Frostbite 3 appears to be closing that gap.
