Gameforge Cuts Staff And Possibly Star Trek Title

None

For an industry that’s posting record sales this year, it seems like and overly disproportionate number of established developers are shutting their doors or announcing sweeping layoffs. Just last week Silicon Knights announced that it would be laying off the majority of its staff. Now it’s starting to look like Gameforge is the most recent casualty.

The developer is planning to cut roughly 100 members of its 450 employees.

“Through a more efficient organizational structure, we can optimize our use of resources and great potential for further growth increase,” said Gameforge CEO Alexander Roesner. “This will strengthen our long term position in the dynamic market for online games.”

Star Trek fans should probably start to worry a bit, though. Gameforge has already pulled the plug on two titles: Mythos and Hellbreed, but now it looks like their browser-based Star Trek: Infinite Space may be on the chopping block as well. So, if you’re currently dressed in a Klingon cosplay outfit, keep your fingers crossed that Gameforge finds a co-publishing agreement.
