Gamescom 2011: Sony’s Budget Priced European PSP

None

Announced during its Gamescom 2011 keynote, the PSP-E1000 is Sony’s value option for those who are more focused on gaming than connectivity. The exact opposite of its failed PSP Go experiment, the PSP-E1000 eschews Wi-Fi capability in the name of price, releasing for €99 this fall.

The hardware itself will have a matte finish, in a color Sony describes as “Charcoal Black,” and will be able to play UMDs or, with a computer and a USB cable, install titles from the PlayStation Store through Media Go.

This announcement coincides with that of the worldwide PS3 price cut, as well as Nintendo’s reveal of its GameCube-free Nintendo Wii, also releasing exclusively in Europe as a budget option. Will these devices eventually make their way over to North America?

The PSP-E1000 won’t, says Sony. A representative explicitly stated that the device will not be coming to the United States. One would assume this means Canada won’t be seeing it either.
