GameStop Now Selling Steam Wallet Cards

GameStop Now Selling Steam Wallet Cards

None

GameStop has officially announced that it will be selling a new line of Steam Wallet cards. These cards, which come in twenty and fifty dollar amounts, allow you to enter a code into steam, which then adds funds to your Steam wallet, which then let’s you purchase games and content on Steam.

Yes, it does seem like a rather roundabout way to get funds into your Steam Wallet. However, this is the only way you can purchase Steam games with cold hard cash rather than an electronic funds transfer. I suppose some people will go to great lengths in order to protect their personal information.

What’s particularly peculiar is that GameStop has been attempting to build up their own digital distribution platform for some time. Essentially, GameStop is now selling a direct competitor’s product.

What does this mean for the future of GameStop’s own digital distribution platform? As of now, we don’t particularly know. It may be the case that the damage done by selling Steam cards does not outweigh the profit that they bring in.
