Gears of War 3 Hits Internet Early, Investigation Starts

One of the perks of piracy that eventually tempts people over to the dark-side of console modding and homebrew software is the ability to get video games before their published street date. Normally, we see games available for download only a week or two before launch. Gears of War 3, on the other hand, was leaked several months before its release date.

An incomplete playable build of Gears of War 3 hit torrent sites last week. The build gives a look at the singleplayer campaign that is still in the testing stages. This makes Gears of War 3 the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine of the video game world (although the final Gears finished product probably won’t suck as much as Wolverine did.)

“This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches,” Microsoft said. “[We are] working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation.”
