Gears of War 4 Has an Optional Gore and Language Filter

Gears of War 4 Has an Optional Gore and Language Filter

There’s always been an optional feature in the Gears of War series that allows people to tone the game down a little. You know, turn off some of the swearing and cut back on the gore, in case some younger gamers are going to be around. Rod Fergusson, head of The Coalition, told Game Informer exactly what the filter takes out.

Here’s the interview, so you can see for yourself what can be taken out of Gears of War 4 .

In case you didn’t have time for that, here’s a summary. Gore is out, because it might not be great for kids to see all the blood and guts. As for swearing, harder stuff is gone, but tamer stuff isn’t. Fergusson’s exact quote was, “I tend to keep the shits. I tend to keep the bitch, I tend to keep the goddammits, just because it speaks to the characters and the thing they’re in. We just sort of focus on the hardest of the hard. So when you turn the mature language off, you’re basically not going to hear the word fuck anymore.” Basically, the filter makes it possible for kids who are around 13 to be around the game.

Gears of War 4’ s beta will be out on April 18 for people who played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on the Xbox One or PC. Everyone with Xbox Live Gold can play it starting April 24. The demo disappears on May 1.
