God Of War Becoming Gods Of War?

God Of War Becoming Gods Of War?

None

It can be difficult to find a truly compelling single-player experience these days. With the prevalence of online play, developers’ focus has shifted to multiplayer gameplay, which hooks players in for longer and is easier to expand upon with map packs and new weapons, earning them additional income.

It appears that Sony Santa Monica has been bitten by the multiplayer bug, as God of War: Ascension’s big reveal turned from a close-in battle against a single Cyclops to an eight-player, team-based, domination-esque brawl. It all culminated in a four-player beat-down of a truly titanic Cyclops, chained to the map.

Why multiplayer? According to the developers, it came about when they were brainstorming “Titan moments” for the latest game. For those unaware, Titan moments are those massive set-pieces that God of War games have become known for, generally tremendous battles against foes many times the hero’s size. They’re all about absurd scale and making the player feel like their character truly is a tremendously empowered badass.

Sony was also willing to release some details on character creation for multiplayer, which will allow players to choose a deity to align themselves with: Zeus, Hades, Ares, or Poseidon, with different skill trees for each. Can Santa Monica pull off a multiplayer action game? I don’t see why not.
