Outlaws Cheats & Cheat Codes for PC

Outlaws is a 1997 Western first-person shooter developed and published by LucasArts. The game was originally released on PC, and remains exclusive to the platform to this day.

Reviewers were mostly positive towards Outlaws. Despite the game being based on a dated engine even for the time, critics lavished praise on the story, making it worth playing despite the gameplay arguably being years behind competitors such as Half-Life and Quake. Financially, Outlaws wasn’t exactly a massive success for LucasArts, despite the game retaining a cult community to this day.

Outlaws is a Western shooter, putting players in the shoes of a retired U.S. Marshall who must return to action for family reasons. The bulk of the game’s content is via the single-player campaign, where you must fight your way through nine varied levels using a variety of Western equipment. You have your weapons of course, but there are also tools such as the lantern and shovel which you must use in specific scenarios throughout the campaign.

One of the most interesting gameplay features is how Outlaws handles difficulty. There are three settings: Good, Bad, and Ugly. On Good and Bad, you can play it like a typical FPS, where your character is a bullet sponge and you don’t have to worry about death too much. However, on Ugly difficulty, you can only take a bullet or two. This forces you into stealth scenarios, and completely changes how Outlaws is played.

It isn’t all single-player action. There’s also a multiplayer component, mostly comprised of deathmatch variants where you can play as various characters from the game. You can even download custom maps, which is where a lot of the game’s cult following in the modern era comes from.

Outlaws Main Characters

With dated gameplay, Outlaws needed something to set it apart from the pack. Luckily, its story received the most praise of any element in the entire game, with the characters being central to that.

Outlaws has a large cast of characters, taking inspiration from many of the caricatures established in spaghetti Western movies of a bygone era. Here are the main ones you need to know:

  • James Anderson: Anderson is the protagonist of the game. He’s a retired U.S. Marshal forced out of retirement by the actions directed toward his family by unsavory individuals.
  • Sarah: Sarah is Anderson’s daughter. After her mother is killed in an attack, Sarah is kidnapped by outlaws. Anderson then spends the duration of the game trying to rescue Sarah.
  • Bob Graham: Graham is the railroad baron who sends outlaws after Anderson’s family. While there are smaller villains throughout the game, it’s Bob Graham who is the overarching antagonist.

Outlaws Titles in the Series

When Outlaws was released, it was developed on an upgraded version of the Jedi game engine, which had previously powered Star Wars: Dark Forces. Because of this, it’s possible that Outlaws was only developed as a tech demo for the later game Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, which would be released in 1997 – just like the Western title.

Ultimately, Outlaws was a one-and-done effort. The mid to late ’90s was an era where LucasArts was moving past its adventure game phase, in an attempt to re-establish itself as the Star Wars studio. It makes sense that resources were directed toward Star Wars titles instead, especially given the looming prequel trilogy just two years later.

The fact that Outlaws flopped financially at the time probably didn’t help matters, either. Why waste time and resources on a struggling IP when you have another right there that practically prints money? At the very least, we did get the Handful of Missions expansion, released for free with a little more content.

In recent years, LucasArts has become a studio that licenses out its owned IP to other developers. If we’re going to see another Outlaws title, it’s more likely now than ever before. We’re not saying the odds are great, but they’re not zero.

  • Outlaws: A Handful of Missions (1998)

If you’re still playing Outlaws in the modern era, we’ve got a treat for you. The game has a ton of cheat codes that you can use, each affecting the game in a different way. And the best part? These are all built into the game, so you don’t have to fiddle around with any third-party software with this list of cheats.

To enter these Outlaws cheat codes, simply enter them while unpaused in-game. They don’t need to be entered quickly, so you have plenty of time between each letter. They aren’t case-sensitive either, so don’t worry about that. To disable them, you must do one of three things: reload your save, restart the level, or re-enter the cheat code.

What is the Invincibility Cheat in Outlaws?

To get invincibility in Outlaws, simply enter the cheat code “olimyella” while in-game. This will give you infinite health and stamina, making you impossible to kill. For obvious reasons, this will make the game extremely easy – but you already knew that, didn’t you?

How Do You Fly in Outlaws?

To fly in Outlaws, use the cheat code “olairhead“. This will give you the ability to fly and allow you to look at the levels in the game with a brand-new perspective. We’re not going to lie, though — the controls are a little clunky, so you might find yourself somewhat frustrated with this cheat. It’s unfortunately your only option here.

Does Outlaws Have Achievements?

No. The original game doesn’t have any achievements to speak of, and the newer Steam re-release never added them either. Outlaws is a game where the experience of completing the game is its own reward.
