Goodbye, My Xbox

Goodbye, My Xbox

None

Here’s some interesting news for all of you who make used of Xbox.com: The My Xbox section of the site is going away. It will be replaced by a “Social” tab, which will add some new functionality. Not only will it show you immediately what your friends are doing, but it will also give you access to the new “Beacons” feature, which will be integrated in the next dashboard update.

Beacons are actually pretty simple. They let you mark games that you want to play with other people. You can leave notes saying when you want to play, and have conversations with friends also seeking to play said games in order to put together matches and meet new people.

In addition, new functionality will be added to the website in terms of media as well. You will now be able to search the Zune video catalog and buy movies and TV shows directly from your browser. The new Xbox.com will also show you special events and promotions right at the top of your social page.

Overall, the new update is shaping up to be pretty sweet, but I am most excited about the beacons. Maybe now I’ll be able to find people who won’t rage quit on me in MW3.
