A few days ago, we reported that the Xbox One would record your achievements through its DVR functionality. While it was a pretty cool idea to allow you to replay your greatest gaming moments and show them to your friends, for a console that has already been criticized for comrpomising people’s privacy with the Kinect, the automatic recording seemed a little … invasive… for some people, especially since these moments could then be automatically shared via social networks like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
Luckily, Microsoft has made a clarification on the matter saying that every achievement will not be automatically logged. Instead, what Microsoft was trying to say was that developers will be able to tag specific moments in the game when the Xbox One DVR starts and stops recording. Developers can put whatever conditions on automatic recording that they want. Achievements are only a recommendation.
This too sounds cool, as you can always capture your flying dive off a nuclear missile in Saints Row 4 and post it to Facebook, but it too can be problematic in the wrong hands. Say, for example, a recording point is set whenever you kill a prostitute in Grand Theft Auto . While your gamer friends on Facebook might get a kick out of seeing you stab hookers for money, your boss and co-workers may not be as amused.
