New Microsoft Patent Uses Biometrics For Storing Gamer Profiles

New Microsoft Patent Uses Biometrics For Storing Gamer Profiles

None

A new Microsoft patent points toward a cool new piece of biometric gamer technology. Essentially, the patent calls for an Xbox controller with pressure sensors on the grips. These pressure sensors would read the way you hold the controller at rest. It will record this as a “pressure signature” and then use this to identify who you are every time you pick up a controller. So you won’t have to spend time signing in and out of gamer profiles. Instead, the system will know exactly who you are as soon as you pick up a controller.

The patent also mentions delivering personalized content based on your gamer profile. For example, once you pick up the controller the Xbox can automatically show you the services you use the most. Hardcore gamers will be prompted to start Call of Duty directly, while more casual users might be brought to Netflix or their Music folder. My pressure profile would probably send me directly to Fez…

As of now, we do not know how if Microsoft is following up on this patent, or if they have a prototype of such technology available. We should hopefully know more when we get a chance to visit the Microsoft booth at this year’s E3.
