Google Super Mario Bros. for a Clickable Coin Block

Google Super Mario Bros. for a Clickable Coin Block

With this past weekend being the 30th anniversary of the Super Mario series and Super Mario Maker having been released on September 11, a lot of people were probably performing searches about the notorious plumber. Those who headed to Google to look him up found a surprise, though. A clickable Question Block appears in the browser.

If someone clicks the block, they’ll hear the iconic chime, see a coin pop up, and get 200 points. Click it 100 times and you’ll hear the 1 Up noise.

This isn’t the first Nintendo-related easter egg Google has offered. There was the Google Maps Pokemon Challenge offered for last year’s April Fools, which probably helped inspire the real-world Pokemon Go . And I’m sure we’d all like to think the “do a barrel roll” Google trick was inspired by Star Fox .
