Gran Turismo Says Goodbye To Tokyo

Gran Turismo Says Goodbye To Tokyo

None

After Japan was hit by a series of earthquakes back in March of this year, many game studios started thinking of new places to do business. While some moved their operations stateside or over to Europe, others simply looked for other places within Japan to do business.

Polyphony Digital, the creator of Gran Turismo, is one of these companies. Soon, they will be moving their development studio across the country to Fukuoka city. The reason for moving was stated specifically as the March 11 earthquakes.

GT designer Kazunori Yamauchi scouted out various cities in Japan for the move, and he settled on Fukuoka, which is in far west Japan, as the nicest place to both live and work. Level-5 games, the studio responsible for Professor Layton, is also based in Fukuoka, and it is possible that more game companies might move there in the future. Fifty game developers will be relocated to the new HQ after the move, with more possibly to follow down the line. The move shouldn’t hamper the studio’s game development in any way.

We wish the Gran Turismo team the best of luck in their new home.
