GTA V’s Red Dead Redemption Mod Canceled

GTA V’s Red Dead Redemption Mod Canceled

Bad news for anyone interested in the Red Dead Redemption Grand Theft Auto V mod. After releasing a trailer for the fan-made project, one of the folks behind it announced they were “contacted” and had no choice but to put an end to it. Of course those lines are incredibly easy to read through, and these kinds of high-profile fan projects are exactly the kind of things publisher will shut down as soon as they get wind of it.

The project was a mod that put the Red Dead Redemption map, based on the Xbox 360 version, into Grand Theft Auto V . The mod was single-player only, and was set to enter the beta phase this summer. It didn’t take long for the takedown after the team behind it, which was also looking for more programming and scripting assistance , released a trailer showing off the idea. The trailer has since been taken down.

This is another sad example of the dangers of fan-projects using IP. Sometimes they go unnoticed, but the way copyright law works, some companies feel the need to shut the projects down regardless of what the human feelings involved are. Publicly announcing these sorts of efforts is always a risk.
