Have You Seen this $300 Controller That Can Transform?

If you have an eye for expensive, adaptable technology, then perhaps maybe this controller (which can transform) may catch your interest.

Peripheral hardware producer Mad Catz has unveiled in a press release its new mobile controller, the L.Y.N.X. 9. Coined as a hybrid controller that’s “radically different,” the metallic gamepad is said to offer “uncompromised control and portability.” Needless to say, this $300 controller is designed for those who have multiple devices, such as mobile, tablet or the typical TV.

Depending on how you want it, you can configure the controller into a more compact profile if you so desire, or you can expand it to fit across a tablet screen. Its default profile is the typical gamepad design, but you can easily fold it away to slip it into your pocket. According to the press release, you can transform the controller “ without compromising on the classic console-style ergonomic feel gamers are accustomed to.”

The controller itself is comprised of multiple, hard-wearing metal parts, which allows for it to be so configurable. There are three primary components to the controller: the Left Wing, the Right Wing, and the Controller “Brain”. It comes included with a seven-inch extension, so you can configure the controller to accommodate the empty space with seven-inch tablets to play games on. The controller is even compatible with certain set-up boxes and PCs as the default “gamepad” configuration.

“We believe the L.Y.N.X. 9 represents a generational leap in mobile game controllers,” said Mad Catz’s president and CEO, Darren Richardson.

Thanks to the ingenious design of the L.Y.N.X. 9 , Mad Catz has produced a truly portable controller that delivers a full size, uncompromised gaming experience. The trend towards mobile gaming continues unabated and is set to explode further into 2015.  We believe that a disruptive, high-quality product like the L.Y.N.X. 9 will enable us to further cement our reputation as leaders in mobile gaming and contribute significantly to sales in 2015.”

There’s also a free Android app to go along with the controller, which will not only fine-tune the controller but also allow you to view a list of compatible software, too. While the controller isn’t available right now, you can pre-order it before it launches in March later on this year, according to its entry in Mad Catz’s online store .
