Latest on Microsoft’s Plans for China Market

In what many consider a somewhat controversial move to begin with, Xbox manufacturer Microsoft has now released additional details regarding how they’ll tackle their newly acquired Chinese sales region.

In a recent post to the Xbox Wire, we’ve learned that Microsoft plans to tailor its latest roll-out to match the needs of what they call an “emerging market.” According to the blog, the release will bring “…tremendous value in China as the ultimate all-in-one gaming and entertainment system. In addition to blockbuster games like Forza Motorsport 5 being offered at ¥249 RMB, Xbox will offer additional value with Xbox Live Gold subscriptions available at ¥199 RMB. In addition, every Xbox One console will include: Powerstar Golf and Neverwinter Online with a Special Edition Pack , The BesTV entertainment experience, free access to Xbox Live Gold through March 2015, A localized Chinese interface, translated content and local payment methods and A two-year warranty and local customer service support from Microsoft and BesTV.”

Yusuf Mehdi (who is corporate VP of Marketing, Devices and Studios at Microsoft) was on-hand during a media briefing and had this to say touting their upcoming venture, “We’re honored that Xbox One is the first console approved for sale in China through the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. We’re dedicated to earning millions of fans in China by working with BesTV to deliver an all in one games and entertainment experience starting September 23.”

The Chinese release of the Xbox will retail for ¥3,699 RMB (which is considerably more than what it costs in American currency).
