Top 10 Psychic Pokémon of All Time

With over ten Mega Evolutions, Psychic-type Pokémon can be extremely powerful in the hands of a talented trainer. From Pokémon with abilities that rival deities, all the way to human-like ones that resemble Gothic maids, there are currently 132 Psychic Pokémon to choose from. From the 132 Psychic-types, we have chosen 10 to develop the top 10 Psychic Pokémon of all time list!

CheatCC picked the top 10 Psychic Pokémon of all time by taking into account popularity, statistics, and abilities of each Pokémon. For readers who wish to go down memory lane, our contributors have compiled a list of the top 10 Pokémon from Generation 1 and other types such as Ghost and Electric.

Necrozma

A Necrozma is seen. It is a Pokémon resembling a humanoid made out of black crystals with intimidadting claws.
Nintendo / Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

“Reminiscent of the Ultra Beasts, this life-form, apparently asleep underground, is thought to have come from another world in ancient times.”

– Pokédex entry #800 in Pokémon Sun

Starting off the list is the mascot of the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon installments. Unique abilities such as Prismatic Geyser and Photon Geyser allow this Pokémon to stand out from other Psychic Pokémon. Necrozma’s catch rate has also increased, so it is very likely that this will be one of your favorite Psychic Pokémon in no time.

“It’s melodies are sung with a special vocalization method that can control the feelings of those who hear it.”

– Pokédex entry #648 in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

The Melody Pokémon does not have an evolution. However, having Normal and Psychic moves makes Meloetta a worthy opponent against Ghost-types. Pokémon trainers have to be mindful of the high cost of some energy abilities. However, Meloetta has incredible statistics with the abilities being worth the cost, earning a spot in this top 10 Psychic Pokémon of all time list.

Gothitelle

Gothitelle, a Pokemon resembling a goth maid, stands in their portrait.

“It has tremendous psychic power, but it dislikes conflict. It’s also able to predict the future based on the movement of the stars.”

– Pokédex entry #576 in Pokémon Sword

Gothitelle is the powerful evolution of Gothorita, also referred to as the “Astral Body Pokémon.” This Pokémon has a lot of support abilities that strengthen the composition of their team. If played right, Gothitelle can easily defeat an Arceus and any Pokémon that relies on physical damage, thanks to the move “Charm.” The efficiency of that ability, coupled with Gothitelle being a versatile final evolution is one of the reasons they made this list.

Latias

Nintendo / Pokémon

“Latias is highly intelligent and capable of understanding human speech. It is covered with a glass-like down. The Pokémon enfolds its body with its down and refracts light to alter its appearance.”

The Official Pokémon Website.

With a defense stronger than Latios, Latias and Mega Latias, its mega evolution, make our list. Latias has both Dragon and Psychic moves, and high intelligence, making them fearsome opponents thanks to their high defense and stamina. Thanks to these factors, we have determined that Latias (and by extension Mega Latias) has earned a place in our list of top 10 Psychic Pokémon of all time.

Victini

Nintendo / Pokémon

“This Pokémon brings victory. It is said that Trainers with Victini always win, regardless of the type of encounter.”

Pokédex entry #494 in Pokémon X.

Victini’s alleged win rate and design contributed to its high popularity amongst Pokémon fans. This small Pokémon represents victory and can create unlimited supplies of energy. Invisibility and telepathy are also weapons in their Psychic-ability repertoire. Victini’s strength in the lore and its popularity make it a good member for our list. After all, who wouldn’t want a cute and powerful animal that brings success to their owner?

Gardevoir

Nintendo / Pokémon

“Gardevoir has the psychokinetic power to distort the dimensions and create a small black hole. This Pokémon will try to protect its Trainer even at the risk of its own life.”

Pokédex entry #282 in Alpha Sapphire.

The Psychic-Fairy evolution of Kirlia is capable in the canon of distorting dimensions and the stats show it. Gardevoir (and, by extension, Mega Gardevoir) boasts an incredibly high speed attack. The Embrace Pokémon can strike swiftly at its enemies, and its attack can not be underestimated by enemies. Add its powerful statistics and it being one of the most popular Pokémon of all time, Gardevoir makes our list.

Metagross

Nintendo / Pokémon

“Metagross is the result of two Metang achieving fusion. When hunting, this Pokémon pins the prey to the ground under its massive body. It then eats the helpless victim using the large mouth on its stomach.”

Pokédex entry #376 in Alpha Sapphire.

This Pokémon is immune to poison damage and has high defense partially thanks to being both a Psychic-type and a Steel-type Pokémon. Not only does Metagross boast an incredible defense, but its intelligence is also high–this Pokémon has four brains. Metagross has a base stat total of 600, distributed in attack and defense. Add its ability to evolve to Mega Metagross and it would be a disservice to not include such a powerful Pokémon in our list.

Alakazam

Nintendo / Pokémon

“Alakazam’s brain continually grows, infinitely multiplying brain cells. This amazing brain gives this Pokémon an astoundingly high IQ of 5,000. It has a thorough memory of everything that has occurred in the world.”

Pokédex entry #65 in Alpha Sapphire.

Intelligent, fast, and proficient with a variety of Psychic moves–Alakazam makes the list. First introduced in Generation 1, Alakazam has a Mega Evolution five generations later. Canonically, Alakazams have psychic powers that are so strong they cause headaches to any creature within their proximity.

We recommend Pokémon trainers carry ibuprofen in case their Alakazams accidentally trigger headaches. Despite their headache-inducing powers, they are a fan favorite and have impressive powers.

Alolan Raichu

Nintendo / Pokémon

“It uses psychokinesis to control electricity. It hops aboard its own tail, using psychic power to lift the tail and move about while riding it.”

Pokédex entry #26 in Pokémon: Moon.

If a Pokémon trainer chooses to evolve their Pikachu in Alola using a Thunder Stone, they can own an Alolan Raichu, a Psychic and Electric version of Raichu. According to Pokédex in Pokémon Sword, the “weather, climate and food of the Alola region” contribute to the differences between the Alolan Raichu and its Electric-type counterpart.

Due to Raichu’s popularity as an evolution of Pikachu, Alolan Raichu makes our list. Add the ability to deal a lot of neutral damage while retaining a lot of speed, and this Mouse Pokémon earned its spot.

Mewtwo

Nintendo / Pokémon

“Mewtwo is a Pokémon that was created by genetic manipulation. However, even though the scientific power of humans created this Pokémon’s body, they failed to endow Mewtwo with a compassionate heart.”

Pokédex entry #150 in Pokémon: Ruby and Pokémon: Sapphire.

Whenever you hear about Psychic-type Pokémon, your first thought might be Mewtwo. Popular and powerful, it would be a disservice not including Mewtwo on the list. With telekinesis, telepathy and genetical enhancements–according to the Pokémon lore Mewtwo is quite literally one of the strongest Pokémon of all time in the world.

Our list of the top 10 Psychic Pokémon of all time was difficult to curate due to the large quantity of Psychic-type Pokémon that exist. Let us know what your top 10 Psychic Pokémon of all time are in the comment section!
