Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon were released on November 17, 2017. Like most Pokémon games, they were developed by Game Freak. The Pokémon Company and Nintendo published Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for the Nintendo 3DS. Unfortunately, the game hasn’t been released on any other systems or consoles, including the current and much more desirable Nintendo Switch. Unless players still have their Nintendo 3DS and the corresponding Pokémon games, they won’t be able to play these incredible entries.
Since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon’s release, many more Pokémon games have come out, like the current Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Pokémon games have become an empire and fans expect to receive one to two new games every year, but that doesn’t stop the truly magical games from shining. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon happen to be two such Pokémon games.
Upon release, the reception was overwhelmingly positive. Players loved the new Pokémon adventure and fell in love with the game’s charm. The game has outstanding reviews. GameStop.com rates the game a 4.6 out of 5 and IGN.com gives it an incredibly high 9 out of 10. According to Google, 95% of the users who weighed in about Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon claimed to like the game. Even now, over 6 years later, Pokémon fans still regard Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as two of the best Pokémon games ever made.
When it comes to the Pokémon available in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the list goes on and on. The games have massive Pokédexes filled with hundreds of Pokémon to catch, befriend, train, and battle. Trainers are spoiled for choice. With so many Pokémon available to choose from, it can be difficult to hone in on which Pokémon are the best.
Naturally, there are many opinions when creating a list of the best or strongest Pokémon. No two lists will ever be exactly the same because every Pokémon has its advantages and disadvantages. Players can make arguments for or against most Pokémon, so identifying the best choices can be difficult. This list will break down five valuable Ultra Sun and Moon Pokémon worth building.
1. Incineroar
Incineroar (National Pokédex Entry #0727/Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon Pokédex Entry #0006) is a fire and dark-type Pokémon and the final evolution of Litten, the fire-type starter. It is a “Heel Pokémon” and it has the Blaze ability as well as the Intimidate hidden ability. This is arguably the easiest Pokémon on this list to get. All trainers have to do is choose Litten as their starter and play with them. Once Litten hits level 17, it will automatically evolve into Torracat. Once Torracat hits level 34, it will evolve one more time into its final evolution, Incineroar.
When searching for the best Pokémon to utilize in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, many players suggest Incineroar. Most players agree that Incineroar will be a great help early on in the game and will continue to be a powerful choice during endgame content, making it the strongest starter in the game. If players want to ensure they have this asset, they should choose Litten as their starter. Incineroar has overall solid stats across the board, with their only real downside being their speed. Their base stats total 530, with exceptional marks for HP, attack, defense, and special defense.
Incineroar benefits from having a massive moves pool, meaning it can learn a wide range of powerful attacks. With such high defense, HP, and attack, Incineroar is capable of dealing devastating blows and tanking damage thrown at them.
Strong Against: Fire, Grass, Ice, Ghost, Dark, and Steel
Weak Against: Water, Fighting, Ground, and Rock
Pokémon With 0 Effect on Incineroar: Psychic
Incineroar’s Base Stats:
STAT TYPE: | STARTING STAT: | MIN STAT (at level 100): | MAX STAT (at level 100): |
HP | 95 | 300 | 394 |
---|---|---|---|
Attack | 115 | 211 | 361 |
Defense | 90 | 166 | 306 |
Sp. Atk | 80 | 148 | 284 |
Sp. Def | 90 | 166 | 306 |
Speed | 60 | 112 | 240 |
Incineroar’s Pokédex Entries In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon:
GAME: | POKÉDEX ENTRY: |
Ultra Sun | Although it’s rough mannered and egotistical, it finds beating down unworthy opponents boring. It gets motivated for stronger opponents. |
---|---|
Ultra Moon | When its fighting spirit is set alight, the flames around its waist become especially intense. |
How to Obtain Incineroar: Players need to choose Litten as their starter Pokémon. From there, trainers can play with Litten on their team to evolve it. The final evolution is Incineroar.
2. Toxapex
Toxapex (National Pokédex Entry #0748/Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon Pokédex Entry #0137) is a water and poison-type Pokémon. Toxapex is a “Brutal Star Pokémon” and it has a couple of abilities like Merciless and Limber. What really makes Toxapex a powerful pick, however, is its hidden ability, Regenerator. Regenerator means that when the Pokémon is taken out of battle, it will regain some of its HP, so when it returns to the battle, it’ll be able to continue fighting past its previous limits. For this reason, mixed with how resilient Toxapex is to many Pokémon types, trainers agree that it’s one of the most broken Pokémon available in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Toxapex is the first and only evolution of Mareanie and in addition to its Regenerator hidden ability, it has some of the highest defense stats in the game. Mixing its starting defense stat of 152, its starting special defense stat of 142, and its Regenerator ability basically makes Toxapex an unkillable tank that will continuously eat incoming damage and protect the trainer’s other Pokémon.
Toxapex’s base stats add up to 495 and while it does have pretty low HP, speed, and attack, none of that matters in the face of how difficult it is to actually kill Toxapex. Unfortunately, the grind of getting Toxapex can be a bit much for some players. Not only do they have to find and catch a Mareanie, but they also need to train it until it reaches level 38. Once Mareanie hits level 38, it will evolve into Toxapex. The grind might be overwhelming at first, but the end result is totally worth it.
Strong Against: Fire, Water, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Bug, Steel, and Fairy
Weak Against: Electric, Ground, and Psychic
Toxapex’s Base Stats:
STAT TYPE: | STARTING STAT: | MIN STAT (at level 100): | MAX STAT (at level 100): |
HP | 50 | 210 | 304 |
---|---|---|---|
Attack | 63 | 117 | 247 |
Defense | 152 | 278 | 443 |
Sp. Atk | 53 | 99 | 225 |
Sp. Def | 142 | 260 | 421 |
Speed | 35 | 67 | 185 |
Toxapex’s Pokédex Entries In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon:
GAME: | POKÉDEX ENTRY: |
Ultra Sun | To attack, this Pokémon sends toxic spikes flying at its enemies. Ones that come close get mown down by the claws on its feet. |
---|---|
Ultra Moon | With its 12 legs, it creates a dome to shelter within. The flow of the tides doesn’t affect Toxapex in there, so it’s very comfortable. |
How to Obtain Toxapex: Players will need to get a Mareanie and level it up to 38. Once it reaches level 38, it will evolve into Toxapex. Trainers can find Mareanie in the following locations:
GAME: | MAREANIE LOCATION: |
Ultra Sun | Route 9, Melemele Sea, and Hau’oli City |
---|---|
Ultra Moon | Route 9, Melemele Sea, and Hau’oli City |
3. Bewear
Bewear (National Pokédex Entry #0760/Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon Pokédex Entry #0206) is a normal and fighting-type “Strong Arm” Pokémon. This Pokémon has three abilities, Fluffy, Klutz, and the hidden ability Unnerve. At first glance, Bewear doesn’t look like an intimidating Pokémon. While it is large, it resembles an adorable, fluffy teddy bear, so it’s easy to overlook and mistake for a Pokémon not worth the time or investment. Trainers who dismiss Bewear couldn’t be more wrong, though, as it’s got an astronomically high attack stat of 125, making it an incredibly powerful Pokémon.
Bewear is the first and only evolution of Stufful. In order to evolve Stufful, players will need to keep it on their team long enough for it to reach level 27. Once it reaches level 27, it’ll automatically evolve into Bewear. In addition to the incredibly impressive attack stat, Bewear also has a high HP pool, meaning it has the health to tank through some decent damage before going down. The rest of its stats are nothing to write home about, but Bewear’s ability to deliver one-shot blows to its opponents makes it worth evolving and training.
Strong Against: Bug, Rock, and Dark
Weak Against: Fire, Fighting, Flying, Psychic, and Fairy
Pokémon With 0 Effect on Bewear: Ghost
Bewear’s Base Stats:
STAT TYPE: | STARTING STAT: | MIN STAT (at level 100): | MAX STAT (at level 100): |

4. Kommo-o
Kommo-o (National Pokédex Entry #0784/Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon Pokédex Entry #0363) is a pseudo-legendary dragon and fighting “Scaley Pokémon”. Because Kommo-o is a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, it is harder to acquire than some of the other Pokémon on this list. That said, Kommo-o is absolutely one of the best Pokémon a trainer can get in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, so the grind is worth it. More than anything, once the player has the right location unlocked, it just takes a lot of patience to wait for a Kommo-o (or one of its pre-evolutions) to spawn.
Kommo-o is the third and final evolution of Jangmo-o. Once Jangmo-o reaches level 35, it will evolve into Hakamo-o, and Hakamo-o will evolve one final time once it reaches level 45. Leveling up this pseudo-legendary is just as much of a grind as acquiring it, but its legendary-like stats make it worth the investment. Kommo-o features extremely high attack, defense, special attack, and special defense, with each base stat starting at over 100. The only stats it struggles with are HP and speed and even these stats aren’t low or detrimental. They aren’t the highest stats in the world, but they aren’t low either. Kommo-o’s base stats equal 600 and they’re distributed evenly enough to make it a well-rounded Pokémon.
Strong Against: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Bug, Rock, and Dark
Weak Against: Ice, Flying, Psychic, and Dragon
Extremely Weak Against: Fairy
Kommo-o’s Base Stats:
STAT TYPE: | STARTING STAT: | MIN STAT (at level 100): | MAX STAT (at level 100): |
HP | 75 | 260 | 354 |
---|---|---|---|
Attack | 110 | 202 | 350 |
Defense | 125 | 229 | 383 |

Ultra Sun | When it howls after finishing off its prey, the metallic sounds of its celebrating comrades can be heard from all around. |

5. Silvally
Silvally (National Pokédex Entry #0773/Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon Pokédex Entry #0260) is a normal-type “Synthetic Pokémon”. This Pokémon shares the same stat pool as Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon’s Ultra Beasts and it’s almost as powerful as a legendary Pokémon. Silvally only has one ability and it’s the RKS System. The RKS System allows the Pokémon to change its type depending on what item it holds. As a base, Silvally is a normal-type Pokémon, which is already a solid choice because it has few weaknesses and can still do decent damage to Pokémon even if it’s not effective against them.
Having the ability to change types based on what item it holds allows trainers to customize their gameplay even more precisely. Basically, players can customize every single combat encounter they have by simply switching Silvally’s item to something beneficial in the upcoming battle. If, for example, the trainer knows they are going up against a powerful Fairy team, they should consider giving Silvally an item that will change it to a Steel and/or Poison type.
On top of the incredible shifting types ability, Silvally has a 570 stat pool where each stat has 95. Silvally doesn’t suffer from any lowball stats because every single one of its starting stats is the same. This stat pool makes Silvally an incredibly universal Pokémon in all situations. Unfortunately, Silvally evolves from Type: Null based purely on its friendship level with its trainer. Type: Null will only evolve for a trainer it has a strong bond with. Players will need to put in the work to win this Pokémon over.
Weak Against (in Normal form): Fighting
Pokémon With 0 Effect on Silvally (in Normal form): Ghost
Silvally’s Base Stats:
STAT TYPE: | STARTING STAT: | MIN STAT (at level 100): | MAX STAT (at level 100): |
HP | 95 | 300 | 394 |
---|---|---|---|
Attack | 95 | 175 | 317 |
Defense | 95 | 175 | 317 |
Sp. Atk | 95 | 175 | 317 |
Sp. Def | 95 | 175 | 317 |
Speed | 95 | 175 | 317 |
Silvally’s Pokédex Entries In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon:
GAME: | POKÉDEX ENTRY: |
Ultra Sun | This is its form once it has awakened and evolved. Freed from its heavy mask, its speed is greatly increased. |
---|---|
Ultra Moon | Through the bond it formed with its Trainer, its will was strengthened, and it was able to destroy its control mask. |
How to Obtain Silvally: The only way a trainer can get Silvally is to evolve Type: Null by leveling up their friendship. Trainers can find Type: Null in the following locations:
GAME: | TYPE: NULL LOCATION |
Ultra Sun | Ancient Poni Path |
Ultra Moon | Ancient Poni Path |
