Magicka Calls Forth Cthulhu

Magicka Calls Forth Cthulhu

None

All hail the great Cthulhu, bringer of chaos, madness, and element-based RPGs, apparently. The newest expansion to Magicka has been announced, and it’s Cthulhu-themed.

The expansion is called Magicka: The Stars are Left, and it includes a horror-mystery campaign based around H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. Included in the adventure are new enemies, new bosses, items, and much more. Here’s the full list of horrible primordial goodies, summoned straight from the press release:

  • An all-new adventure, several levels long, allowing players to get lost in space and time

  • 2 new challenge maps

  • 2 new robes

  • 2 new bosses

  • 5 new achievements

  • 7 new enemies

  • Considerably more than 2 new items and Magicks

  • Also, we make fun of Minecraft this time

But the great Cthulhu does not just rise from his slumber in the ancient sunken city of R’lyeh for no reason, he also brings new viewpoints on game design and distribution. In a decision that can be described as “possibly mad” and “probably awesome,” the expansion content will be available to not only purchasers of the expansion, but friends of those purchasers, so long as the host of the game owns the content. This means that if you buy the expansion, you don’t have to worry about your broke friends not being able to tackle the content with you. That’s something that has almost never been done before in a multiplayer online RPG.

So get Magicka: The Stars are Left this winter solstice, and maybe Cthulhu will take pity on you when he rises.
