It’s a phenomenon with devastating potential. Like global warming, the signs are evident, and the threat is imminent. But unlike global warming, the reversal of Earth’s magnetic field will be instant and deadly.

The first to notice the signs of the fluctuating magnetic field were video game enthusiasts who were also research scientists. They began an investigation to explain reports of unusual battery drainage on portable gaming systems including the DS, PSP, and laptops. At first, the scientists believed more complex coding was to blame. But the phenomenon continued with older games on older systems.

More reports began to flood in concerning all portable battery-powered and rechargeable devices. Recent blackouts in major North American cites have been traced to anomalous interruptions on the electrical grid. The only explanation, according to this group of scientists, is an unstable magnetic field.

The Earth’s magnetic field has changed polarity throughout the past, averaging a shift every 40,000 years. According to calculations, we are overdue for such a shift. It will happen relatively quickly. Smaller branches of magnetically charged particles will begin to stray approximately one year before the cataclysmic shift. This shift will occur within a few days, reversing the polarity of all electrical currents, ultimately destroying all electronic devices and all electronic grid systems. Due to our dependency on all things electrical, the destruction and devastation will be unlike anything ever experienced.

The scientists warn that readers have experienced the effects of this phenomenon themselves. They mention battery charges that don’t last as long as they did a year ago. Batteries in electronic devices such as laptops, smart phone, pads, MP3 players, and digital cameras need replacing at an alarming rate. Not to mention these devices are more prone to glitches and other strange performance issues. The scientists are asking people to make a mental note of such occurrences; even documenting them to aid in further research.

The latest problem is an out-of-control satellite, as reported by NASA. It has prematurely and mysteriously run out of power. Its path cannot be changed as all contact with it has been lost. This one-ton space bomb will impact on Earth within the next six months. NASA has said there is a very real possibility people could be injured or killed as a result. Once again, fluctuating magnetic fields are to blame.

(The scientists have just asked me not to refer to them as “the scientists” for the remainder of the article. They claim it makes them sound eerie and X-Files -ish. I have agreed to their request, and have politely asked them to go home and quit reading over my shoulder.)

The scientists (they went home already), are working with Sony and Nintendo to create magnetic core reversal-compliant handhelds. Gaming enthusiasts won’t miss a beat. Just put the batteries in the opposite way, and while the world is falling apart around you, you’re good to game.
