While rumors have swirled around the Mass Effect franchise getting a movie deal, today it was finally confirmed by the powers at be.

According to statements released to the press, Mass Effect the movie will be produced by a triumverate of personalities.  First off, Legendary Pictures’ (Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, William Fey), producers of Batman Begins, Watchmen, The Dark Knight, 300, Ninja Assassin, and many more, will serve as the producing company.

However, they will also be joined by former Marvel CEO Avi Arad as well as his son Ari.  Furthermore, BioWare co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk will will also participate in the movie’s production along with Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson.

Unsurprisingly, due to the 7-year, 40 picture deal penned by Legendary and Warner Bros. back in 2005, WB will distribute.

As far as writing the script, it was mentioned that Mark Protosevich (The Cell, I Am Legend, and Thor) is currently the leading candidate to pen the screenplay.

No planned release window has yet been released.
