Metal Gear is a franchise of stealth games developed by the ever-prolific Hideo Kojima. The first title was released in 1987 for the MSX home computer. The series is known for pioneering the genre. Originally, Metal Gear was supposed to be an action game but Kojima thought the limitations with the hardware were too much to overcome. So the game became something akin to hide and seek which was unique for games at the time.

The Premise Of Metal Gear
You control the military operative Solid Snake who infiltrates enemy bases while avoiding patrolling guards. If the player is seen, the game enters “Alert Mode” where you must escape the enemy’s sight. If Snake is seen and only a single exclamation mark appears over an enemy’s head, only the enemies in the player’s present screen will attack. Snake can escape by simply moving to an adjacent screen. If two exclamation marks appear over the enemy reinforcements from off-screen will appear as well. Snake can only escape by eliminating all incoming enemies, going outdoors, entering an elevator, or entering a boss battle.
The Main Characters Of Metal Gear
- Solid Snake – a rookie member of the special forces group FOXHOUND sent on his first mission.
- Big Boss – commanding officer of Snake, he gives information about mission objectives and items.
- Diane – a former positive punk vocalist who provides information on the enemy forces from her home.
- Jennifer – infiltrates Outer Heaven’s medical staff to find her missing brother and assists Snake as an inside agent.
- Grey Fox – a FOXHOUND agent who was captured during a previous mission.
- Dr Pettrovich – a robotic engineer working for Outer Heaven against his will.

Metal Gear Glitches
Pass Electric Fields In MSX Version
To pass through electric fields without taking any damage, press F1 to pause the game, then F4 to enter the Load screen then press ESC to leave it, and press F1 to unpause.
Infinite Items
To get infinite expendable items, first, pick up the item, then press F1 to pause the game, then F4 to enter the Load screen then press ESC to leave it, and press F1 to unpause. If done right, the item will appear once again for you to pick up.
Nes Glitches
Timer Reset
When you escape the Final Level have your character smoke a cigarette and the time will be reset.
Tank Fight Skip
There are two ways to skip the tank fight. The first way is a bit harder than the second, go inside your inventory, unpause to go back to the game, then quickly hold UP to move up some, then quickly go back into your weapons or inventory, and repeat all steps until you slowly inch your way up to the next screen.
The second way is to get close to the tank and as soon as the tank shoots you, you become invincible for almost 2 seconds. As soon as you get shot quickly run straight up to the top of the screen, allowing you to walk through the Tank to the next screen.
Super Computer Skip
When entering the Super Computer’s room, stay in the door frame and push right on the control pad. You’ll automatically warp to the final boss and won’t have to worry about the base’s self-destruct countdown that the computer’s destruction usually starts. Now you have all the time you need to beat the last boss.
Expanding Hole In Floor Skip
In the areas where the black holes quickly open up to swallow you just simply pause the game and unpause. When you return to game play the holes will be frozen in the state of expansion they were in when you paused. They will be invisible but smaller. Simply side-step around where you saw them last and you will be in the clear.
Bull Tank Exploit
When fighting the Bull Tank you can reset its position by accessing your Sub-menu. This comes in handy if it gets too close, due to it having a 1-touch kill on you. To defeat it, use your Grenade Launcher.
