Metal Gear Rising Not Planned For Wii U

Now that the Wii U is out, hardcore developers throughout the industry have been trying to jump on the Nintendo bandwagon. It’s currently an extremely popular console, according to market trends, and you would have to be crazy to ignore the newest console craze. Besides, Nintendo is looking for legitimacy in the hardcore market, so everybody wins.

Right?

Well, not everyone is buying into the Wii U craze. Kojima Productions, Platinum Games and Konami are all hesitating to port their titles over to the Wii U in order to appeal to the Nintendo fan base. Meta Gear Rising: Revengeance, for example, is staying at home on the PS3 and Xbox 360. JP Kellam, writer/translator at Platinum Games, said “[Konami] would have to see demand for [a Wii U version] and bring us the request to port.” Since Wii U fans are getting high off of Nintendoland right now, my guess is that the demand for Metal Gear Rising on the Wii U isn’t very high.

On one hand, this is probably a good business decision, but on the other hand, this might stifle the Wii U’s growth. If every company is going wait and see if there is demand for hardcore gaming on the Wii U when the console only has casual titles available, it’s a bit self-defeating. Doesn’t the console need hardcore titles to attract hardcore gamers in order to create the demand for more hardcore titles?
