Microsoft has recently decided that they will be showing up to far fewer industry events than they once did. They just announced that they won’t be attending the Germany’s Gamecom and Japan’s Tokyo Game Show events this year, once again solidifying E3 as the biggest industry event in the gaming world. Instead, Microsoft has decided to focus its post-E3 activities on smaller events across the world, perhaps to get more exposure on lower levels to a greater audience.
And even though The Tokyo Game Show is still going strong, Microsoft’s choice to opt out from it can be expected considering they have had a difficult time making a dent in the Japanese market. Most likely, Microsoft is making this decision due to the money involved in setting up a booth at one of these major events. The massive production Microsoft put on at E3 probably cost millions of dollars, a budget that can be spent on, I don’t know, making games? If they aren’t getting a good response from TGS or GC, then it simply might not be worth the cost to show up. By Angelo M. D’Argenio |
