Minecraft Stacking Blocks on 360 This Winter

Indie-darling construction title Minecraft is set to see console exposure this coming winter when it releases exclusively on the Xbox 360. Announced at the Microsoft Pre-E3 press conference without footage or excessive fanfare, the block-busting adventure-sandbox is expanding beyond its humble, PC roots and Xperia Play-exclusive “Pocket Edition” with not only a console release, but as-of-yet undetailed Kinect support.

Minecraft is a hit, open-world title developed independently by Markus “Notch” Persson. The game, still in beta, involves breaking down one’s block-based environment for resources with which one constructs weapons, tools, and blocks of various materials that can be used to construct structures ranging from a simple hovel to a grand castle all the way on up to a full-scale reproduction of the USS Enterprise.

Kinect, leveraging tools that adapt it to work on Windows systems, has already been used to import three-dimensional images of people into the Minecraft world as massive block structures. Could this have something to do with the Xbox version’s mysterious Kinect features? We’ll find out this winter when Minecraft launches on the Xbox 360.
