Minecraft Xbox Tops 3 Million Mark

Minecraft Xbox Tops 3 Million Mark

None

You’d think that everyone who wanted to play Minecraft would have already played the PC version, right? Well it turns out that simply isn’t true. In fact, the Xbox 360 Minecraft user base is impressively large—three million large to be exact.

Recently Markus “Notch” Persson announced that Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition had passed the mark of 3 million units sold, totally destroying every previous XBLA sales record. No other game has managed to reach this mark since the Xbox 360 launched, and Minecraft did in a little over two months. That’s insane! Even now the runner up, Castle Crashers, is only slowly coming up on 2.9 million units sold and it’s had years to climb that high.

The big question is, where does it stop? If Minecraft has reached three million after two months, where will it be after four months? After a whole year? Will Microsoft’s servers even be able to handle the load Minecraft will put on them? Will the Xbox 360 become the Minecraft platform of choice?

More importantly, what will happen to all these Minecraft players once the next Microsoft console comes out?
