Mobile Will Never Overtake Consoles Says EA

Mobile Will Never Overtake Consoles Says EA

There’s been a lot of buzz around the mobile market lately, and it’s evident that more people are playing handheld games than ever before. This, however, does not phase some at EA (who feel that consoles will be unaffected by this latest trend).

Blake Jorgensen (who is CFO at EA) recently stated that the huge explosion of mobile gaming will only help expand their already massive fan base of video gaming that exists today. Jorgensen notes mobile is “…bringing new people into the gaming business, but I don’t see a day when it takes over the console experience. I think it will expand the console experience.”

This comes on the heels of companies like Nintendo looking into other viable alternatives for their business model, including branching out into game content for tablets and smartphones. However, Jorgensen clearly outlines one glaring obstacle that he feels won’t allow the handheld market to truly overtake mainstay consoles: the technology. “You just can’t get that kind of experience on mobile,” he said referring to a game like Battlefield 4 . “…mobile is much more quick, short bursts of gameplay.”

Jorgensen would later explain that the key is to provide a melding of both mobile and traditional console titles, allowing players the freedom to float between both effortlessly.
