Star Trek: 25th Anniversary is a space adventure video game developed and published by Interplay in 1992. The game is set in the iconic Star Trek universe, as depicted in the 1960s TV series, Star Trek: The Original Series. In the game, players take on missions as Captain James T. Kirk and his USS Enterprise crew. In addition to the original floppy disk release, the game was launched later as a CD release with additional content. It is also available for NES and Game Boy. Star Trek: 25th Anniversary Premise

In Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, players assume the role of Captain Kirk, the legendary Captain of the intergalactic starship, USS Enterprise. The players lead the USS Enterprise through space as seen in the TV show while taking on missions in different parts of the universe. The game is divided into two main modes: a bridge view for navigating the starship and a third-person perspective for away missions on planets or space stations. Players engage in space battles, control ship functions via the crew, and prepare a landing team on away missions with members including Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

Each episode begins with a message from Starfleet Command, setting the stage for the ensuing adventure. The game has an episodic plot, which includes a variety of scenarios from investigating Demons attacking settlers to dealing with Romulan incursions and resolving biohazard crises. In addition to featuring legendary characters from the show, the CD version included the original cast in the dialogues.

  • Captain James T. Kirk: The main character in the game. He is the charismatic leader of the USS Enterprise, known for his problem-solving skills and strong leadership. Voiced by William Shatner.
  • Spock: The logical and insightful Vulcan science officer. His knowledge and analytical abilities are crucial in the game, which Captain Kirk takes full advantage of. 
  • Dr. Leonard McCoy: The ship’s chief medical officer, known for his compassion and often the opposite of Spock’s logic. He provides an important balance where Spock’s dispassionate 
  • Montgomery Scott (Scotty): The inventive chief engineer responsible for the Enterprise’s technical upkeep and crucial in managing shield and power controls. Without Scotty to beam the landing team up, there’s no returning from the missions.
  • Pavel Chekov: The navigator who uses his unmatched skills to guide the Enterprise through space.
  • Hikaru Sulu: Responsible for controlling the ship’s orbit. As the helmsman of the USS Enterprise, Sulu uses his expertise in piloting and tactical maneuvering.
