More Ways to Improve Your Kinect 2.0!

More Ways to Improve Your Kinect 2.0!

Earlier in the week I brought you a list of several lesser-known voice commands that anyone who owns a Kinect should be aware of. Now, the folks at Microsoft have brought us further tips to improve your setup.

The staff of the Xbox Wire recently posted a video of Albert Penello (of the Xbox product planning team) and Scott Evans (a member of Xbox engineering) which gives us a basic run-down on how to optimize the environment our motion sensing technology occupies in order to get the most out of the Xbox One tech. After all, Microsoft has decided that all gamers who purchase their system MUST also own the new Kinect 2.0 (you can thank that extra $100 on the price tag for that) so it makes sense that we should be able to use the damn thing properly right?

So, here are a few additional things you can do to adjust and tweak your setup. Some are common sense items, while others could generally help your connectivity:

  • Don’t put Kinect on top of a speaker. Putting it too close to one will make it hard for it to hear your voice.
  • Place it as high as possible to give it the best view of the living room so it will see you well.
  • Go through the audio calibration process and when you do, turn the volume on your TV up really high and keep the room as silent as possible.
  • Set up the IR blaster so you can use Kinect to control your speakers and TV with the sound of your voice. Watch the video above for step-by-step instructions.
