NBA LIVE Getting Name Change; New Control Scheme Too?

None

EA has announced that their venerable NBA LIVE franchise will have its name changed to NBA ELITE for the coming season (NBA ELITE 11).

A graphic was posted yesterday, which has since been updated (updated version featured below), on NBA LIVE’s Facebook page which confirms the change.

Perhaps more interesting, if reports from across the Internet (Kotaku, OXM, IGN, etc.) are to be believed, is that EA is completely changing the control scheme from button-centric inputs to that of analog stick commands.

From descriptions by OXM, the left analog stick controls player movement, while the right analog stick will control the player’s hands and, subsequently, the ball.

This analog stick-based mechanic is touted to be revolutionary, hence EA has decided to make a fresh start for the series by changing its name.

EA has turned to analog stick controls for a number of their sports franchises, including NHL, Fight Night, and Skate.  This shift has been met with varying degrees of success (and fan approval), but overall it usually proves to be compelling if somewhat more complicated (a steeper learning curve).
