Need For Speed World Has Launched

None

Do you want to burn some virtual rubber, but find yourself a little short on cash during the holiday season? Not to worry, because Need for Speed World, a new massive online iteration of the Need for Speed franchise, has finally been released. NFSW is published by Aeria games and is part of EA’s Play4Free portfolio. This comes after the massive and, in my opinion, unexpected success of Battlefield: Heroes, the free-to-play offshoot of EA’s Battlefield franchise.

Here is how Aeria games describes NFSW:

Need for Speed World combines the rush of illicit street racing, deep RPG style progression and vehicle customization into an immersive, socially-connected Need for Speed experience. Players can compete against any one of their friends, family or pick from thousands of top-ranked players to challenge in intense online battles and police pursuits across 150 miles of sprawling open world.

Admittedly, it’s the RPG progression that I am most interested in. I’ve been a longtime believer that every genre of video game is made better by adding RPG elements, and that sort of progression, when done properly, can lend itself well to replayability.
