New Skullgirls Character And Info Revealed At EVO

None

EVO brought us some great fighting game panels this year, and even showed off the grand reveal of the next Skullgirls character: Parasoul. Parasoul is a zoning character that can lay traps around the stage. She can either remotely detonate the traps, or attack them to set them off. Attacking them while the opponent is in range not only grants her more damage to her attacks, but also more hit-stun, which allows her combo opportunities she wouldn’t normally have. Considering she is a mid-range character (what with the absurd range of her sword-like umbrella) these will be incredibly useful tools.

Parasoul also has the ability to call in soldiers to assist her in battle. One soldier drives by on a motorcycle, grabbing the opponent, while another will dive in front of Parasoul to take hits from projectiles. A third shouts at Parasoul, making her stop whatever she was doing. This sounds useless, but it’s actually used to stop whatever move Parasoul is in the middle of and return her to a neutral state.

In addition to Parasoul, the game has received its own new system updates as well. It’s sporting a new HUD, with clearer life bars and combo counters. The menus look better, though they are still just text stand-ins. New hit-sparks and sounds have been integrated into the game as well, and 1v1 battles are now best two out of three. Mike Z also said that the game may allow single characters to regain life in a Vampire Savior-style regeneration method, but this is currently unclear.
