Frank West, Rocket Raccoon Unveiled For UMvC3

None

We all knew that Frank West and Rocket Raccoon would be part of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for a while now, but we didn’t have any idea how they would play. We had an inkling about Frank, considering he was part of the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom cast, but it turns out he doesn’t play like we thought he would.

So let’s start with Frank. First of all, he’s lost all of his shopping cart projectiles, and his zombie projectiles have totally been reworked. Instead of zombies coming at you from all areas on the screen, Frank simply throws them from wherever he is standing in a variety of different ways. Some zombies simply cause a hit, while others stun the opponent as they struggle against the zombie itself. He has gained a new move, however: an instant camera attack that does very little damage. However, taking enough pictures of the opponent will allow Frank to level up and gain more moves, including dodges, OTGs, wall and ground bounces, and powerful ranged normals. Frank can also drink to power up his moves, but after a while he will throw up, causing him to be helpless for a period of time. He has three supers, a shopping cart rush super that hits on the ground, a combo super that changes depending on what level he is, and an anti-air Kobun hat super, which is sadly a little less impressive than its TvC incarnation.

Rocket Raccoon, on the other hand, is one of the smallest characters in the game. His normals consist of a range of knife strikes and laser blasts, which naturally combo from each other. He can hover, eight-way air dash, teleport via burrowing, and, most importantly, set a variety of traps that affect the opponent in different ways. His net trap suspends the opponent in mid-air, his shrapnel trap hits several times, he has a trap that launches, a trap that wall bounces, a trap with a lot of range, and even a trap that allows him to shoot himself to explode. He fires multi-directional projectiles, two at once, both of which can OTG, normals that cause him to dash while doing damage, and an assortment of useful super moves. His first is a Gatling gun that fires full-screen for many hits and lots of damage. His second is a bouncing trap that can launch the opponent in the exact direction you want for better combo opportunities. Finally, his level three buries you in the ground and calls in an air strike.

Overall, both characters look like a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to add them to my MvC3 teams come November 15th. Which characters will you choose?
