The cover of NHL 16 is going to look a lot different than originally intended. Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks was supposed to be on the cover, but EA Sports has removed him due to a rape investigation. At this point, he has not been arrested or charged by police.
The original NHL 16 cover would have had Kane and Jonathan Toews, his Blackhawks teammate. The new cover, revealed on Twitter , focuses only on Toews.
It feels like this is a case of EA playing it safe. While Kane is only under investigation at the moment, who knows what will happen between now and NHL 16 ‘s September 15 release date? This way, the company can prevent any unpleasant situations, should he be charged, and not have to deal with last minute alterations.
