Heavenly Sword was one of our favorite early PS3 exclusives, and developer Ninja Theory has been hard at work improving on the excellent base they established with that game. Though Sony has decided not to continue the Heavenly Sword franchise, Ninja Theory has announced that they are partnering with Namco Bandai to produce its spiritual successor: Enslaved. According to Ninja Theory’s official line, “Right now we’re working on an exciting new concept that has got everyone we talk to buzzing. We can’t say a lot except that it’s going to be great to work on and should be even better to play! It’ll take all the things we loved about Heavenly Sword and make them bigger and better than ever before.” The next issue of GameInformer magazine will have an exclusive first look at the game. Until then, IGN is reporting that you will take on the role of a survivor named Monkey in post-WWIV North America. After being picked up by slavers, you and a female character named Tripp have to make your way out of the ruins of New York to Tripp’s home. Despite being a loner, you’re compelled to help Tripp because a) she’s one of only a handful of females left on the continent, and b) she controls the explosive collar clamped around your neck – á la Running Man. Despite two characters in-game, co-op play will not be an option. On the bright side, the game will no longer be a Sony exclusive. So if the game ends up kicking ass, maybe there’ll be more incentive to make a sequel. |
