According to a report from CVG, “UK industry sources” have confirmed to the gaming website that Nintendo has plans to launch the Nintendo 3DS handheld in October. While it is not in the least bit shocking that Nintendo would want to get the hardware out before the big holiday shopping rush, it is a bit surprising that the Big N would have plans to release the hardware so early. In a discussion with CVG, a “very senior” publisher made that sentiment known: “It’s a surprise – we were expecting it much closer to Christmas. But I suppose it gives Nintendo the opportunity to get it front and centre in people’s minds nice and early.” The source followed that statement by remarking, “In my experience, you don’t launch a product that early to Christmas unless you’re confident in it – and going to spend a lot of money on it. We’re reassured that Nintendo is going to give it some decent backing in Q4.” Supposedly, Nintendo will make the launch date official at E3 2010. CVG suggests that 10/10/10 is the front-running date for release.
