Nintendo 3DS Price Gets Slashed

Nintendo 3DS Price Gets Slashed

None

Today, Nintendo announced plans to shave nearly $100 off of its 3DS system. The price cut will bring the units down to $169.99. “For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America. “We are giving shoppers every incentive to pick up a Nintendo 3DS, from an amazing new price to a rapid-fire succession of great games.”

Nintendo hopes the price cut will give the 3DS some momentum going into the holiday season, and with the way their game library is shaping up, it’s a solid bet. The 3DS got off to a slow start, but has been gaining speed with the rerelease of several classic N64 titles, including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and the upcoming Star Fox 64. The company also plans to release Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Mario Kart going into the holiday season.

If you already own a 3DS, you should probably connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11. These users will automatically be registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program. Starting on Sept 1, this program will allow users to download 10 NES virtual console games, free of charge, and will provide players with 10 Game Boy Advanced virtual console games by the end of 2011.

The price change will be effective on August 12
