Many of Nintendo’s mascots are lined up to appear on Nintendo’s consoles in the next few years. Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, and even Yoshi have already been confirmed to be starring in upcoming games, but we hadn’t yet heard anything about Kirby.
Fans of Nintendo’s round, pink eating-machine can finally rest assured that a traditional side-scrolling Kirby game is in development for the 3DS. The company was very sparing of details, showing only some trailer footage that portrayed Kirby performing many of his signature moves.
The game appears to take advantage of the 3DS by having foreground and background paths that Kirby can jump between. Its title has not yet been announced, but it has been scheduled to release in 2014.
The new Kirby game will join a long line of impressive 3DS upcoming titles, including the new Zelda game, A Link Between Worlds .
