Nintendo Celebrates 20 Years of Pokemon with Bundles and Content

Can you believe it’s almost been 20 years since the original Pokemon was released in Japan? That seriously blows my mind; I still have my Pokemon Blue Gameboy cartridge. This franchise has meant a lot to us over the years, and it’s meant a lot to Nintendo. In order to celebrate 20 years of Pocket Monsters , Nintendo is pulling out all of the stops with new hardware bundles, new video and trading card content, and new games.

As far as hardware goes we’re getting a special edition New Nintendo 3DS that comes pre-installed with the original Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. You’ll also get two corresponding face plates: red featuring Charizard, and blue featuring Blastoise (why are these not proper nouns recognized by my word processor?). If you’re more of a 2D guy or gal there are three, totally badass 2DS bundles as well. You can go for a translucent red, blue, or yellow 2DS, each coming with its corresponding version of classic Pokemon pre-installed. These guys will instantly remind you of your translucent Gameboy Color; nostalgia overload!

Nintendo would also like to remind you that Pokken Tournament is coming to the Wii U sometime this spring. If you just can’t wait to do battle then you might want to break out Pokemon X/Y and Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire. Every month, we’ll seeing Mythical Pokemon giveaways, be it in-store code distributions or online downloads. February’s Pokemon is the original mythical Pokemon Mew, which will be given away at your local Gamestop. Head over to www.pokemon20.com to find out more.
