Nintendo TVii Delayed Until 2013

Nintendo TVii Delayed Until 2013

Good news, Wii U owners! Nintendo TVii has finally been dated for December 8th! Well, that’s when it’ll show up in Japan anyway. We still have no idea when the service, which was promised as a launch day feature, will appear stateside. The report on the Japanese launch date comes courtesy of Slashgear , who also mentioned that the delay would affect Europe and North America.

One of the more promising features of the new Nintendo system, TVii allows owners to watch television via the console while the GamePad acts as a controller. You’ll be able to pull up live shows, recorded programs from your Tivo, and surf on demand services such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Instant Video. Given the current state of the Wii U’s Miiverse community, it’s disappointing that we can’t get our hands on Nintendo TVii any sooner. Compared to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, the Nintendo Network has been extremely friendly.

Despite the delay, we can still use our GamePad as a TV controller. Though, in Japan you’ll have to shell out a one-time fee of ¥100, which translates to about $1.22.

Here’s to hoping we can get our hands on Nintendo TVii sooner rather than later, so we can watch the Super Bowl on our GamePad screen instead of our 100-inch big screen. Because that’s what a real gamer would do, right?
