The future is looking much brighter thanks to a surprisingly affordable price point for a new headset. It turns out Oculus is working with Samsung to create the Samsung Gear VR, a headset designed to work with Samsung’s 2015 smartphones. Also, it only costs $99.
Don’t take this for a serious gaming headset though. The Samsung Gear VR is more along the lines of a competitor for Google Cardboard and mobile headsets. It isn’t something specifically designed for computers. Still, a $99 price-point is encouraging and should help bring VR into the mainstream.
The Samsung Gear VR will be 22% lighter than previous Gear VRs and will launch in November. An exact release date hasn’t been revealed, but it will be released before Black Friday 2015.
