Oculus VR CEO Getting Sued By Total Recall Technologies

Oculus VR CEO Getting Sued By Total Recall Technologies

Palmer Luckey is the man behind the Oculus Rift. Without him, it’s hard to imagine VR would have the same momentum that it currently has. His prototype effectively showed a lot of developers and, subsequently, gamers that VR can be more than a gimmick. It can be the next step for gaming. Now, it seems, a lawsuit is being filed against him for going off on his own and selling to Facebook.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup has ruled that company Total Recall Technologies could proceed with their breach of contract claim. He did, however, dismiss several other claims the company was making against Luckey.

Total Recall Technologies claims that they hired Luckey to build the head-mounted prototype in 2011 and signed a confidentiality agreement for the work. In those years working for the company, Total Recall alleges that Luckey gained crucial information and feedback to improve his design. He then took that information and used it to launch his own Kickstarter campaign.

Luckey denies their claims and refers to the lawsuit as “a brazen attempt to secure for itself a stake in Oculus VR’s recent multi-billion dollar acquisition by Facebook.”
